In 2006 band director,
Wes Locke created Lake Winds as a concert band for home schooled children.
Lake Winds has a full complement of instruments including brass, woodwind and percussion and strives to be a musical ambassador to our community showcasing the wonders and possibilities of music making by home school and private school youth.
our goal
The goal of the Lake Winds Homeschool and Community Band program is to provide home educated youth, and students attending private schools without a band program, an opportunity to experience the joy of making music and becoming musicians. Music is an outlet for children to explore and express themselves in positive ways. Our goal is to provide a quality educational experience to homeschoolers and other youth in the community who otherwise may not have an opportunity to participate in a traditional band experience.
Lake Winds offers children the valuable experience of learning about music, learning to play an instrument, and being part of a group working towards a common goal. The study of music has proven to provide many beneficial effects to children.
”The fact that children can make beautiful music is less significant than the fact that music can make beautiful children.”
Cheryl Lavendar - Music Teacher
